West Tennessee Man Apologizes For Memphis Murder

A West Tennessee man scheduled to be executed tonight is apologizing for his actions. Donnie Edward Johnson wrote a letter addressed to those he’s caused pain asking for forgiveness. Johnson is expected to be given a lethal injection tonight at Riverbend Maximum Security Institution for the 1984 murder of his wife in Memphis. In his letter, Johnson apologized to his kids and his wife’s family, saying he was not a man, but a monster before finding Jesus. Church leaders across Tennessee have asked Governor Bill Lee to commute Johnson’s sentence to life in prison due to his ministry work in prison.
