Memphis Welcomes First Female Police Chief

The city of Memphis welcomed the first woman to lead the police department on Monday as she began her first day on the job. Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland tweeted that he was proud to participate in the pinning ceremony of Police Chief C.J. Davis. The police department also tweeted “Welcome aboard.” A former member of the police department in Atlanta, Davis had also served as police chief in Durham, North Carolina. Strickland said Davis stood out over other applicants due to her leadership experience. Davis takes over a Memphis police force that saw a record number of homicides last year.
