DeSoto County Cracks Down On Out-Of-County Student Enrollment

DeSoto County leaders have passed a new ordinance to crack down on out-of-county student enrollment. The school district says it’s had a significant problem with some parents misrepresenting their address in order to enroll their kids in DeSoto County schools. Anyone who now does that and gets caught – can now be charged with a misdemeanor crime and will face a 500 dollar fine and up to 180 days in jail. Families who don’t live in the district don’t pay taxes to DeSoto County and cost the school district upwards of 7 million dollars each year, according to data provided by the district.
